General Questions

Who comes on HonestReporting Missions?

HonestReporting Missions are geared towards discerning professionals of all ages. Our participants expect a top-class itinerary and top-class hotels. They typically want to join a small group of like-minded people from all over the world to experience a side of Israel that is rarely glimpsed – even by those living there. Those who join care about Israel, are frustrated with the way Israel is portrayed in the media, and want to learn from the experts and meet locals from the many communities that make the up the social fabric of Israeli and Arab society. Finally our participants want to expand their knowledge, and learn how to share it effectively.

What’s a typical day on an HonestReporting Mission?

We are firm believers in not spending all day inside a conference room, so we usually divide our days between hearing from experts on a variety of topics such as security, anti-terrorism, the political arena, issues facing Israeli society in various periods over its history, etc, with field trips in keeping with the theme of the itinerary, such as historical/topographical/political sites. We are also firm believers in feeding the body as well as the mind, so there will be plenty of leisure time, with excellent dining and time for shopping and relaxation.

Will there be much touring?

While we like to diversify our itineraries, we are not a typical “tourist program” and so do not include activities such as bathing in the Dead Sea or rafting on the Jordan river. However, getting VIP entry into out-of-bounds parts of the Western Wall tunnels as we learn about the history of Jerusalem, hearing from IDF spokespeople at the Erez crossing at the Gaza border, or meeting the mayor of a town in the disputed territories are visits you may be doing.

How many people are on a typical mission?

Our missions average 25-30 participants. Occasionally we exceed this number, however we limit participation to a maximum of one bus (including staff).

I am not Jewish; can I join your mission?

HonestReporting missions are typically attended by a mixture of Jews and non-Jews, religious and not religious alike. You will be welcomed by the staff and other participants, whatever your background. In order to maintain a pleasant environment for everyone, we do insist that no actions that can be considered to be of a “missionary nature” be made, for any religion or belief.

I am Shabbat observant; can I join your mission?

HonestReporting Missions are run on a Shabbat-friendly basis. The hotels cater for Shabbat observance, with automatic elevators and non-electric keys. Shabbat sessions are held without the use of projectors or microphones.  All meals on our missions are strictly kosher.
